Cannes award winners Tourvest Duty Free continue to back Novo Ivc’s leading in-flight technology

Novo Ivc secures repeat business while confirming their foothold in Africa as the favoured provider of Tourvest Duty Free for in-flight mobile point of sale technology.

The Novo Ivc/Tourvest partnership commenced in 1999 with the introduction of Novo’s first generation product the ‘Eagle’ on board Kenyan Airways. Today, on the back of the successful partnership with Novo Ivc, Tourvest Duty Free division have chosen to implement the fourth generation Touch PC Falcon across their entire operation. With some 580 devices expected to be rolled out across 63,000 trolleys during 2007, Virgin Atlantic, South African Airways, Air Namibia, Kenya Airways and Air Nigeria will rely on Novo’s cutting edge Falcon and the Tourvest back of house system to provide a complete retail solution.

Novo Ivc will provide their world leading in-flight retail solution “skypos” (which consists of advanced point of sale software running on the Windows CE Falcon) to control all sales on board the aircraft. The system will then communicate with Tourvest’s ground based solution to control the entire operation from supplier, to warehouse, to bond, to aircraft and back again. It’s reliability, efficiency and capacity to facilitate total stock visibility heightens customer perception of the operation and provides the airline with a fully automated electronic interface directly to the bank/cashiers, office/purchasing and HR departments. The system also provides advanced management information which enables Tourvest to optimise their product mix and price point.

This year Johannesburg based Tourvest celebrated their tenth year as one of Africa’s leaders in the travel industry and seventh year as Tourvest Duty Free. Boasting divisional growth revenue of 21% and operating profit by 90% Tourvest Duty Free was found to be the star performer within the retail merchandising division of Tourvest in their 2006 financial review and as four times winner of the Cannes Frontier In-flight/Marine Retailer award can attribute some of their success to their clear growth path and customer facing approach aided by technology. To this end, a partnership with Novo Ivc, who were the first company to put a mobile point of sale system on board an aircraft in 1986 and have continued to be at the forefront of mobile technology in the aviation sector for 21 years, would appear to be a perfect match.

Tourvest Duty Free CEO Ian Hay said “Upon taking the decision to automate our on board operations globally so that we could offer maximum efficiency to our clients, we researched our potential suppliers extensively and embarked on a tender process which was exceptionally thorough in order to make sure that our detailed requirements were met. At the end of this process we concluded that Novo Ivc were best equipped in terms of technology, attitude and expertise to partner us moving forward.”
