System Overview

The processes utilised by the Novo on-board system can be summarised into four discrete stages. The following example is applicable to the airline sector;
1. Moving data to the unitsData (day/date route, allocated crew, stock per trolley and draw, accepted currencies, card hot list) are loaded onto the unit from the ground - based back office system via:
a. GPRS (or an Aircraft Resident System)
b. Ethernet or WiFi (for a Crew Room Resident or Trolley Resident System)
Physical data transfer ( i.e. USB pen or SD card ) can be used as a back up solution, where Wireless technologies are not adopted by the airline or cannot be utilised in specific airports.
2. Moving data to the Plane
The units are either:
a. already onboard (Aircraft Resident System)
b. carried by the crew onto the aircraft (Crew Room Resident System)
c. transported in the Trolley by the Duty Free or Catering Supplier (Trolley Resident System)
3.Sales Onboard
Sales are made onboard using:
Cash and foreign currency, credit, debit and chip and pin cards, Contactless and Near Field payment cards, vouchers and scratch cards.
Sales of Duty Free, Food and Beverage, Gifts, Attraction tickets, onward travel, car hire, pre order and home delivery are calculated via the PayPDA
4. Retrieving the data
When the plane touches down all card data is sent via GPRS straight to the acquiring bank and then settled with the airline's banking systems in a matter of hours.
The flight data (day/date route, allocated crew, remaining stock per trolley and draw, cash, voucher, card sales and currency takings) are then returned to the back office system in the same manner as they are uploaded (GPRS, WiFi, Ethernet or physical data transfer) and the process starts again.
